Issues with starting and opening Direct Messages for some users

Issue Summary:

At 11:40 AM PDT on March 13, we made a code change that caused users to be unable to start a new DM from the “Direct Messages” menu on their channel sidebar. After identifying the issue, this change was rolled back for all users at 1:10 PM PDT and access to this menu was restored. Access to Direct Messages from the Quick Switcher and from usernames in the channel sidebar was unaffected during this period.

6:57 PM PST

Full functionality for Direct Messages should be restored for all users! Please reload Slack for the fix to take effect.

1:10 PM PST

We've received word that some users are experiencing reduced functionality with Direct Messages. We're investigating!

Team members appearing offline inaccurately

Issue Summary:

On March 13th at 10:00am PT, some users were seeing the availability of their teammates incorrectly showing as “away”, even though they were online and actively using Slack. This issue affected some users located in various regions of APAC.

A recent deploy had introduced errors that were causing connection issues linked to user availability. Once this was identified, we rolled out a fix. After receiving confirmation from affected users, the issue was officially resolved as of 7:30am PT on March 15th.

1:54 AM PST

Users should now appear online correctly for the rest of their team. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused! If you're still having troubles, please let us know at feedback@slack.com

11:09 PM PST
