Incident

Problems with sending or receiving messages

Issue Summary:

On June 23, 2020 from 3:10 a.m. PDT until 3:22 a.m. PDT, customers were unable to send messages or make certain API requests in Slack.

We were alerted to this issue at 3:13 a.m. PDT and upon investigation found that a large batch job that was queued had temporarily overwhelmed our servers, causing new requests on these servers to fail. After we completed processing the events associated with this batch job, activity returned to normal and the issue was resolved for all impacted customers by 3:22 a.m. PDT.

We waited until 5:33 a.m. to publicly announce the resolution of the incident in order to fully confirm that this batch job was the triggering factor for the incident and that no further customer impact would take place.

6:02 PM PST

We’ve resolved the issue with sending messages, which affected some users earlier in the day and Slack is back to full functionality. We’re sorry for the disruption this may have caused.

5:33 AM PST

Things are looking better and messages are being sent again. If you still experience issues, please get in touch with us at feedback@slack.com to let us know.
