Some users encountering degraded performance or trouble connecting

Issue summary:
On September 20, 2020 from 12:15 a.m. to 12:52 a.m. PDT, some users encountered degraded performance or were unable to use Slack.

An unexpected surge in traffic caused a portion of our servers to be temporarily overwhelmed, and requests were then slow or failed altogether for some users.

While the issue resolved before we performed any remediations, we're working to ensure an issue like this doesn't occur in the future.
