App icons containing emoji are not displaying correctly

incident done

Issue summary: From October 9, 2020 at 12:00 a.m. PDT until October 12, 2020 at 2:03 p.m. PDT, the avatars for apps with emoji icons were not displayed correctly. This affected both the desktop app and web browsers. The mobile app was working as expected. A change to our internal design and interface guide resulted in unexpected behaviour in how Slack chooses the app icons to display. Once the cause was identified, a fix was pushed out, resolving the issue.

Customers should no longer be experiencing any issues with app icons not displaying correctly. This can be resolved by reloading the app with Shift + Ctrl/Cmd + O. If that doesn't work, please clear the app cache by heading to the main application menu and clicking Help > Troubleshooting > Clear Cache and Restart (or ☰ > Help > Troubleshooting > Clear Cache and Restart on Windows 10). We do apologize for any disruptions, thank you for your understanding.
