Incident

Customers with data residency in Tokyo may experience troubles with connectivity issues

Issue summary:
From 1:06 PM PST until 1:42 PM PST on January 29, 2022, some users may have experienced connectivity issues. Specifically, this affected members of workspaces with the Tokyo, Japan data region selected for their team's data residency policy.

A backfill operation unexpectedly overwhelmed the server, causing issues loading Slack content and features. As soon as the impact became apparent, we aborted the task and cleared the queue. Traffic to and from the Tokyo server was restored shortly thereafter, allowing users to resume sending, viewing, and searching for messages and files in their workspace.

5:42 PM PST

All Slack features should now be restored. For those who were impacted, you may have only experienced issues between the hours of 12:30PM and 1:00PM PST. We thank you for your patience while we worked on a fix.

5:30 PM PST

We are continuing to look into this issue that customers with data residency set in Tokyo may be experiencing. We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide more updates as new information becomes available.
